Discover a New Generation of Antibacterial Toilets

The Philippe Starck-designed SensoWash® range of shower toilets scores highly in terms of hi-tech features and its bacteria-resistant HygieneGlaze surface – but its environmental credentials are equally as impressive.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, said Leonardo da Vinci, and with each of his designs, Philippe Starck presents the truth of this statement. The modernist visionary has designed a new generation of shower toilets for Duravit, the puristic SensoWash® Starck f, which combines sustainable design with a high degree of user comfort.

Behind its understated aesthetics lie numerous benefits: from the descaling function, odour extraction and proximity sensor, to its automatically-opening-lid, night light, and seat shower. Some models are also available with a warm air dryer, seat heating and energy-saving modes, and all functions can be controlled via Bluetooth by remote control or the SensoWash® app.

In addition to the hygienic flush, which is integrated into the flush-mounted element of the DuraSystem®, the HygieneGlaze ceramic surface, in particular, provides advanced safety in terms of hygiene. Germs and bacteria have virtually no chance of survival on this innovative surface – even indoors. The permanently fired ceramic glaze, already highly effective in 2015, has now been further developed and made even more effective by Duravit's research team.

The optimised formula makes use of various metal ions and other active ingredients which, with the help of the oligodynamic effect, destroys bacteria and thus quickly putting them out of action. After just six hours, 90 per cent of the pathogens have disappeared; after 24, 99.99 per cent have disappeared.

The first version of the HygieneGlaze ceramic surface helped improve hygiene in the bathroom dramatically, but HygieneGlaze 2.0 achieves 99.9% efficiency, as confirmed by the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health at the University of Bonn, among others. Image via Architonic

HygienicGlaze reduces the use of environmentally harmful disinfectants, while the Duravit Rimless® open rim design ensures hygienically perfect wash results even with small quantities of water. It is not all about optimal functionality and clean, modern design – efficiency and resource conservation in relation to broader responsibilities towards the environment and society are also high on the priority list for both Duravit and the designer.
